Updated Truck Driver Student Registration in Clearinghouse
Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced today that students in process of getting their Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) should register in the FMCSA Clearinghouse as “Student Driver”.
The update from the Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is intended to improve transparency and compliance within the FMCSA Clearinghouse. By ensuring that all student drivers are properly registered under the correct designation, the agency can more accurately track drug and alcohol program requirements and maintain up-to-date driver records.
Proper registration is a critical first step for students entering the trucking industry, as it helps streamline the transition from training to employment. It also ensures that future employers can access necessary information in accordance with federal regulations, reducing delays in hiring and onboarding.
Students and drivers are encouraged to review the registration requirements carefully and complete the appropriate process before beginning safety-sensitive functions. Failure to register correctly may result in compliance issues or delays in obtaining or maintaining driving eligibility.
