Patent for Powdered Alcohol, Palcohol, is Approved by the Treasury Department

A US- based company called Palcohol has had their patent for powdered booze approved by the Treasury Department. According to the product’s website, Palcohol is expected to be in the market this fall, launching with six  beverage formulations: vodka, rum, four cocktails- margarita, cosmopolitan, lemon drop and mojito.

Along with recreational drinking uses, Palcohol also plans on launching a non-ingestible version that can be used for medical, manufacturing and possibly energy applications. States such as New York, have already moved to ban the substance, saying that it could easily be sprinkled unknowingly into individual’s food or drink. There is also concern about the powdered version being snorted, which would cause the alcohol to be absorbed directly into the brain.
