A qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a clinician who helps Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated employees return to work after a DOT violation has occurred, such as a failed drug and/or alcohol test or a refusal to test. SAPs conduct clinical evaluations, make recommendations and ensure compliance based on the mission of public safety. SAPs act as a gatekeeper to approve and deem employees eligible for safety-sensitive duty. Become a SAP today and join our network!

There are several requirements to become a qualified DOT SAP including being a licensed physician, licensed social worker, EAP professional, licensed marriage and family therapist or Certified Drug and Alcohol counselor. Regulation training in addition to clinical experience in drug and alcohol treatment and diagnosis is also required.
