e-cigarettes Soon to be Banned by FAA?

August 9th saw some concern for passengers aboard the JetBlue flight  from Boston to Buffalo, New York. When baggage handlers smelled smoke, they yanked a smoldering bag from the plane and quickly took a fire extinguisher to it. The cause of the smoking bag? It is thought to have been from an e-cigarette that a passenger had forgotten to turn off and stowed away in their checked luggage.

Because the Transportation Authority considers e-cigarettes personal devices, the Department of Transportation is not considering further restrictions on vape pens and e-cigarettes. Ed Freni, director of aviation at Massachusetts Port Authority, commented that ” the more you see these types of items sold out there, the more our industry has to take a closer look at them, as we’ve done with hazardous materials.”

All 100 Passengers on the flight were taken off the place through the regular passenger door and all bags were removed and checked before the flight was cleared to continue to Buffalo.
