FMCSA Publishes Final Rule Establishing Unified Registration System

The DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA) published a final rule combining 16 forms for registering and updating information.  The forms are currently used by brokers, carriers and freight forwarders, the new system will combine the forms into a single, electronic “smart” form.

The goal of the Unified Registration System is to increase efficiency and simplify the registration process for industry providers.  It will also allow the FMCSA to maintain more accurate information its regulated operators and entities. The web-based system is expected to be operational by 2015.
